Custom Player Models

A Mod for: BONEWORKS

About the Mod

Custom Player Models is a mod made from scratch by me. It allows your visual avatar to be changed and modified to custom-made models created by users within the community.
The development process for this was interesting, as I spent a good month on and off just experimenting with different ways to deconstruct how their model was being controlled. They didn't use the Avatar system that Unity utilized, so simply replacing the mesh wouldn't suffice. I had to study and learn how everything pertaining to their IK and animation worked.
This took a long while of trial and error, but after a couple of months, I managed to create a workflow for users to create their own avatars. This paid off, as it's one of the top downloaded BONEWORKS mods on Thunderstore.
It also paid off in the fact that the successor to BONEWORKS, BONELAB, has new custom avatar support from the developers - assumably inspired by the mod.

About the Game

BONEWORKS is a physics-based VR first-person shooter. You're able to dynamically interact with anything that can be lifted, allowing you to approach combat and puzzles with an intuitive knowledge of physics. This was incredibly novel upon its release, which is what captivated me to start development on the Custom Player Models mod.
